What a long, strange trip it’s been…Since outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic some two years ago, the Syracuse I-Day Committee has been working diligently to maintain viability of our annual event. In 2020, illness, shutdowns and mandates forced postponement until 2021 with a hope we might move beyond the reach of COVID’s influence by late 2020 or early 2021. Unfortunately, the infection rate surge of Fall 2020 revealed these hopes to be overly optimistic.

The challenge in planning an event of this size is timing necessary to complete key tasks and arrangements well in advance of the event. To assure a well-run October event, these tasks must be complete no later than the end of March.

In 2021 a guaranteed venue could not be secured. The Oncenter and a potential alternate location were being used as vaccination sites. There was no way to know if either would become available for our late October event. Given this reality, the 2021 event was also postponed.

Moving forward, in December 2021, the committee again began planning for an event to be held in October 2022. With uncertain status of similar events, lack of firm venue pricing estimates, rising costs of most all other resources, supply chain issues and uncertainty in projecting post pandemic attendance, event viability is still uncertain.

A vote on holding an event in 2022, among all committee members, was held. It is with great reluctance and much disappointment the Syracuse I-Day Committee has decided it will not hold an October 2022 event.

The Committee is considering future alternatives to its traditional event format. Pre-paid sponsorship funds are being returned to our loyal sponsors. We are hopeful good things will emerge from this difficult experience we have endured the last few years.

A final and most important note; I cannot thank enough all of the committee members who have worked many years to plan and conduct Syracuse I-Day in the past and maintain its place in our local insurance community during these most trying times and beyond – without them, there is no Syracuse I-Day.

Sincerely,
Mark PalinkasSyracuse I-Day Chairman2020, 2021, 2022, 202?
